So this week I am
doing a lot of shopping for my new project in Fibers Studio. I have gone threw
my own closet looking for those pieces of clothing I have not worn in years but
don’t have the heart to throw away. So what you are looking for when your
recycling new clothing to print on or sew is natural material like cotton,
wool, silk, hemp, and cashmere. If possible you want to stay away from synthetic
material they are harder to print on. So some place that Have really good
re-sale clothing is the Salvation Army, Detroit threads, and Regeneration.
There are many other places but these seem to have a good selection at a decent
price. Salvation Army is a good place if your looking to create a big piece of
clothing you can take sheets which they sell for around 3 dollars and have
yards of material. At Detroit Threads in Hamtramck they have a lot of vintage
styles. Regeneration in Ferndale has options of things from 60’s to present
day. These are all great place and if
anyone knows of a great resale shop please comment. It’s a great way to save
money and have a unique recycled closet.
Really great information! What is the project that you are making in your fibers class?
